A generalist, making things,
and figuring out how they travel

Beijing  ·  Boston  ·  Pittsburgh

Born and raised in Beijing, shaped by global wanderlust. Her background bridges International Relations at Tufts University and Entertainment Industry Management at Carnegie Mellon — a long way around to the thing she was actually looking for: somewhere the arts and the business of them meet.

She has been riding since she was five, which makes it the oldest thing on this list and the one least likely to end. It also turned into a business: she co-founded OatSnax, making treats and snacks for horses in Beijing.

She wouldn't call herself a writer, or a professional artist — more someone who records things, in images and words. A Mind with No Shore is the first of the writing to be made public; the rest has been going on quietly for a long time.

Chen Xi

The drawing and the photographs do different work. She takes photos to find things; the art is where she makes them up. Both are telling stories, just from opposite ends.

She's always in the middle of learning something. Not restlessness — she just tends to follow a thing until she understands it, then finds the next one.

02About this website

Why it exists

Having your own site always seemed like a good idea — but the design services were expensive, and anything ready-made hands you someone else's shape to fit into.

Doing it this way means the whole thing stays under my control: what goes in, what comes out, and how it all sits together.

How it was made

Designed by me, coded by Claude. I came in with no coding background at all — the idea of vibe coding is what made it feel possible in the first place.

It grew section by section, each one added to make the whole thing more complete and more interesting to move through. More was removed than added: an early version had a torch effect and a parallax scroll. Neither survived.
